30 September 2008 - Surrogacy for Gay
Dads Forum (Victoria)
Gay
Dads Victoria are presenting a community forum on Surrogacy for
Australian Gay Men. The baby boom amongst gay and
lesbian families isn't just limited to co-parenting arrangements. An
increasing number of gay Australian men are considering surrogacy in
the United States, Canada and India as a means of creating their
family. Domestic and international adoptions are difficult and
largely restricted to exclude gay men and couples. Similarly,
surrogacy options in Australia are extremely limited, if not
completely non-existent.
A community forum for all those
interested in becoming dads through surrogacy is being held at7pmon30
September 2008.
Presented by members ofGay
Dads Victoria, the forum will provide an opportunity to find out
more about Surrogacy and the options available in other countries.
The presenters will share their experiences and be available to
answer questions. The forum is aimed at people just starting
to consider surrogacy as an option or for those who have also
started on the surrogacy journey. No particular surrogacy agency or
method is being promoted, but rather we aim to cover all the options
available in the US, Canada and India
This is a great opportunity for
interested gay singles or couples to have some of their questions
answered:
• How does
surrogacy work? • how do the
laws relating to surrogacy work in the US, Canada, India • How do I
bring my child back in to Australia? • Can anyone
apply? • How much
does it cost?
Prahran Dads back New Laws by Julia Adler
Proud Praharn parents Doug and Brett with one-year-old twins Daniel and Leah.
Doug Weller and Brett Jenkin say they have what it takes to raise their one-year-old twin boy and girl: love, and plenty of it.
``If any child has one devoted and caring parent, they are lucky,'' Brett said.
``If they have two, they are extremely lucky.''
Breakfast with Scot is showing at the Mardi Gras
Film Festival and looks like a great film. See the trailer below.
"Ed and Sam have been in a committed relationship for four years. Ed's a former hockey player turned sportscaster and Sam's a sport's lawyer. But when Sam's adventure seeking brother Billy, takes a job in South America, his ex-girlfriend, Julie, is discovered dead from a drug overdose leaving her son Scot (not Billy's son) to Billy. But Billy is missing in action so Sam is left to pick up the pieces. But the problem is Ed never wanted kids. When 11 year old Scot arrives and they open his duffle bag, inside they find... one pink musical hairbrush, two plastic containers of beads and faux-gold chains, a pink poodle belt, and four pairs of white sock-ettes with lacy fringe at the top... they realize Scot is more out of the closet then they are even though he does not know it yet. A unique boy in an even more unusual situation, Scot throws Ed and Sam's life into complete disarray. When Billy finally show's up to take Scot back to South America - Ed and Sam can't bear the thought of losing Scot. In the spirit of ABOUT A BOY, BILLY ELLIOT and MA VIE EN ROSE, BREAKFAST WITH SCOT explores what it truly means to be a family, hilariously contrasting familial stereotypes with the realities of family life and showing how it feels to be a boy who doesn't quite fit into the role society has prepared for
him"....From IMDB

"Tim’s
daughters were conceived via self insemination at home, and spend
part of each month with Tim and his male partner, who live very
close to the girls’ mothers. Tim shares the school runs, and phones
and emails his children throughout the week. “Nine years on, it’s
been a most successful and satisfying arrangement,” says Tim. “Each
couple are always welcome in the other’s home, and we sometimes go
on holidays together with the kids. We don’t let our egos get in the
way or argue about rights, because the people with the rights are
the children.”
